The BIOCRYPTOLOGY® Multipurpose System

Description

This is, by default, a completely customizable biometric solution for micropayments, access control, and inventory control. In this case, our HSC-MP multipurpose terminal can be adapted to show rich messages, target specific publicity to the processing person and allows interactivity features through the terminal's LCD touch screen. It can also be used as a very sophisticated time and attendance or access control terminal with a powerful graphic display.

System hardware configuration

This BIOCRYPTOLOGY® Multipurpose System for special biometric applications mainly related to interaction through the terminal (touch screen) and mobility comprises the following hardware elements:

  • HSC-MP.
  • Secure locks (optional).
  • Secured SCU.

Technical features

The hardware

  • In case of time and attendance applications by using this type of terminal, it is able to connect from different locations as a single system. Thus, the information generated from any location can be accessed from any central office location.
  • If using the HSC-MP terminal for access controls (i.e., fixed to a wall), the terminal and the server can be connected through any existing computer network with standard category 5 or 6 cable; without the need to install a new network.
  • Wireless connections can also be used to connect terminals to the Hanscan server (System Control Unit).
  • Security of communications is guaranteed regardless of the physical environment - the whole encryption process takes place at the application level using a nonlinear key generator (based on hardware).
  • A fast, powerful touch screen can be used to command various options; produce menus, stream video content, deliver still images and much more.
  • The System Control Unit (SCU) is supplied by Hanscan. This server contains the MABAS management software for the entire system. It stores all registered user data and the events that occur at all of the terminals connected to the network.
  • The HSC-MP terminal can connect from any place in the world to the Hanscan Data Centre or a specific SCU by using the included secure GPRS module.
  • Two System Control Units can be installed in parallel; one as backup to cover any server failure. Our SCUs can also use a RAID system.
  • Physical access to the System Control Unit to make software changes can be achieved by utilizing username and passwords or our SPADE terminal. For added security the system can be configured to require multiple persons to participate through a Hierarchical Permission Policy for any maintenance or modifications.
  • Any previously installed client server can be connected to the Hanscan Data Centre.
  • You can connect this multipurpose system from different locations as a single system. Thus, the information generated from any location can be accessed from any designated office location.
  • This flexibility allows you to use the Hanscan Data Centre as the pivot of a global system.
    • If an employee requires privileges to access restricted areas in other properties of any multi-location enterprise, the administrator is able to remotely configure all employee, visitor, supplier, etc. privileges in order to provide all time (temporary, between certain hours or days of week, etc.) and/or security level based access for any/all other enterprise properties.

The Software

  • The operating system with the HSC-MP and all other Hanscan terminals is Linux. The environment is QT v4.
  • MABAS software is included and installed in the System Control Unit, thereby facilitating the formation and adaptation of a final solution. Our software is designed to operate within a network (intranet). This allows access to the server and management software from any computer. Access can be granted either with a username and password (one-factor security) or with our biometric SPADE terminal (three-factor security).
  • The micropayment application is completely customizable and can be easily configured by the client. This is very simple through the MABAS CMS (Content Management Software). For example, a restaurant manager can easily create a menu for a single store menu or a series of menus for an entire enterprise using any computer linked to MABAS CMS via the Intranet. All updates are immediately adopted by the HSC-MP terminals, no matter their geographic location.
  • The MABAS CMS is completely customizable for most retail applications.
  • The MABAS software can be updated remotely and because of our complex security mechanisms that support robust authentication and coupled with the encryption mechanism, the ability to inject malicious code into the system is prevented.

Specific Safety Features and Integration

  • All data stored on the System Control Unit and all network traffic is encrypted at all times, including all biometric data, identity cards, bank cards, SSN’s, etc.
  • The encryption performed in the System Control Unit is not executed by software, thus preventing access to the file encryption keys. Instead, the System Control Unit encrypts information via an electronic encryption system, avoiding the storage of a security key and making the data unreadable to anyone, including Hanscan.
  • The Hanscan solutions can be customized and invoked remotely through an API with all the necessary functions to manage the system. The API is based on web services.
  • The client server is able to request data from the Hanscan server. So, if integration by other software is desired with our MABAS software, it can be done simply by using the Hanscan API.
  • All Hanscan biometric terminals employ digital signature mechanisms that prevent the replacement of the System Control Unit and/or the Hanscan Data Centre.
  • Any Hanscan solution can be integrated with third parties (governments, banks and other data centres) through Web Services or any other traditional means of integration. In this sense, security systems between the Hanscan Data Center and the external entity will be marked by world standards with use of AES, RSA and X.509 certification, among others.
